As of 6 months, Jessica is able to:
- sit up on her own
- do the army crawl (arms only)
- pass things back and forth between her hands
- recognize her Mama and Dada (by voice and image)
- walk across the room when you are holding her hands
- laugh when you are being funny, pick out her favorite toys (currently blue baseball bat, plastic book, and hand and foot chew toys)
- eat solids (really it is more like mush).
We expect her to be crawling very soon which will completely change how we watch her. As excited as I am for that day, I do not look forward to baby proofing the house or dealing with gates on the stairs.
The day after her 1/2 birthday (last Saturday) Jessica got sick for the first time. We have been blessed that we made it this long. Especially since she has been going to daycare. She had a fever for 4 days. The highest it got was 103.2 (high for an adult but pretty common for an infant). After visiting the doctor, we were thankful to find out that she did not have RSV or an ear infection. The doctor said it was most likely just a virus and it would work itself out. This was wonderful news! If it had been RSV, she would have been contagious for about 2 weeks which would have forced Mark or I to miss quite a bit of work. If it would have been an ear infection, that would be a sign that she may be susceptible to them and could have many more in the future. Hopefully her little body has built up an immunity to the virus she had so she won't get it again.
I will say having a sick baby is not fun but it is even worse when both Mom and Dad are sick too. Yep, we both have been dealing with some form of illness as well. I guess the good thing is that we got it all over with at once and didn't have to spread it out over a longer period of time.
We are all now on the recovery end of sickness and looking forward to spending beautiful spring days playing in the sun.
